About the Book
From the book
While laws, ethics, and morals are essential, they are "intangible promises" without concrete substance, leading to practical limitations. Ultimately, when a problem arises, it often falls to individual conscience or the parties involved to resolve it. From this point on, it becomes a "power struggle." If you were to imagine yourself in a difficult situation, would you rather be the "strong" or the "weak"? Would you prefer to be "manipulated" or to "manipulate in return"? The answer may seem obvious, but dark psychology will give you greater conviction in your response.
- From "Chapter 1. Why Is Dark Psychology Necessary?"
"Making the other person unable to live without you." This is the "true axis" of power and domination. Even soft emotions like love and warm relationships like friendship can only form when one side desperately desires something from the other. In psychology, this is called a "dependency structure." Humans are instinctively drawn to entities that can fill a void created by problems they cannot solve or difficult situations. It doesn't matter if this void is for emotional stability, knowledge, resources, or authority and prestige. If someone holds what you need, you cannot easily leave their side.
- From "Chapter 2. The Nature of Relationships: The True Purpose Is Hidden"
Humans only feel at ease when they gain "moral justification." That's why, even in trivial matters, they self-define themselves as "doing the right thing." However, if you exploit this human psychology, you can gain a powerful weapon to pressure and manipulate others. This involves instilling "guilt" in the other person's mind. Once a person is seized by guilt, it becomes difficult to control their emotions and escape. They endlessly blame themselves between the belief of "I am right" and the question of "Why did I do wrong?" This is where the "psychological snare" lies hidden.
- From "Chapter 2. Utilizing Guilt: Guilt Is a Psychological Snare"
If someone uses unpredictable words and actions to shake your emotions, you can employ the "emotional disruption counter-exploitation" technique. However, before doing so, ask yourself: Is this really the best choice for me? Am I being drawn into the "rules of the game" set by the other person even in this? Such self-questioning will revive your judgment and reactivate cognitive defusion. What's important is "who defines the rules of the game." Do not let the other person monopolize that authority. Because that will be the most "unpredictable" power that will allow you to endure without collapsing in this crazy world.
- From "Chapter 3. Emotional Disruption: Choose Unpredictability"
The more fear they feel, the more they choose "emotional surrender" rather than "rational thought." To corner your opponent, you need to make them feel that "it's not my fault" or instill fear that "they might turn on me at any moment." This is where projection strategy becomes a key weapon. In other words, by shifting the blame or aggressive tendencies that I should take responsibility for onto the other person, I can then act like the victim.
- From "Chapter 3. Reflective Projection: Reflect It Back Like a Mirror"
What appears to be honest words may not be "truly honest." Keeping a promise doesn't necessarily mean "trust." What's important is "what" the promise was made for, and "when, how, and why" it was executed. Without knowing this, most people only focus on the content of the promise, and that's precisely when real danger approaches. In such cases, ask yourself: "Is this a performance for trust, or a real transaction?" If vague words are followed by meticulous execution, it's highly likely to be manipulated words and calculated promises.
- From "Chapter 4. Calculated Manipulation: Be Wary of Vague Promises"
If you have to make a choice, the first thing to consider is not "how many" options there are, but "how" those options were designed. Even if there appear to be various options, if the structure is tilted in a specific direction, it's not a free choice but closer to a forced (manipulated) decision.
- From "Chapter 4. Option Design: Is My Choice Really 'Mine'?"
Viewing "human" charm as a poison can be extreme. To live "humanely" means not giving up goodwill and empathy as fellow human beings. However, there are those in the world who exploit these natural emotions to subtly infiltrate and manipulate others, turning them into weaknesses. The important thing is "when and how to choose to cut off emotions." Emotions themselves are not bad. But uncontrolled emotions can become a knife in someone's hand, piercing you. Sometimes, you need the courage to set your own boundaries and draw a firm line.
- From "Chapter 5. Cutting Off Emotions: Human Charm Is Poison"
If someone tells you, "You've changed," the real meaning of that statement is this: "You are no longer my 'emotional tool.'" That person isn't afraid of your change. They are afraid that they can no longer control you. On the contrary, if you think about it this way, it's a kind of signal that you are on the rise.
- From "Dark Aphorism 11. Turn Weaknesses into Opportunities"
If you want someone to comfortably open up to you, first tell them one of your secrets. People unconsciously feel an obligation to reciprocate someone who has given them something. To repay this subtle debt, the other person easily reveals their hidden feelings and secrets. The human heart is the most intimate object of transaction. If you want to know the truth, first pay a small price.
- From "Dark Aphorism 22. The Heart Is Also an Object of Transaction"
